Scope and Contents Biographical notes on Aulay MacAulay and Tormod Clèireach [Norman MacIver], telling how Aulay MacAulay died in 1760 and that he was the son of Fear Bhreinish [Dugald MacAulay, Brenish, Eilean Leòdhais/Isle of Lewis]. There is a note of a daughter who left at fifteen years old although it is not clear if it is Dugald or Aulay's daughter. Aulay is noted as having three daughters. Also mentioned is a family member living with Aulay's brother-in-law Rev Mr Hamilton at Hoy, Orkney [Arcaibh]....

The song was composed by Ana ni Dhonil ic Iain oig Chaimbeul [Anna Campbell] who was engaged to Allan Morrison of Crossobost, Lews [Crosbost, Eilean Leòdhais/Isle of Lewis], who drowned. Scope and Contents Transcription notebook belonging to Alexander Carmichael. The majority of the volume has been used but intermittently there are groups of blank folios. Carmichael appears to have written in the book in the 1860s creating sections of different genres at different stages in the volume, with pages left blank in between to fill up appropriately. In about 1875 he has then used some of these blank pages to transcribe notes and stories but has not kept to the genres sections he initially created....
